WHAT IS THE SLASHIE WINE CLUB???
The Slashie Wine Club is arguably the best (I think it is, Matt agrees with me) wine club going round. It’s a way to keep your home supplied with great wine, either by subscribing to get regular deliveries or as one off (but still regular right?) purchases.
Why is it the best? No other club has the combined powers of two sommeliers with award winning palates sharing the wines they make and they wines they buy for themselves at home, in packs that with pricing that benefits you from what might be called "vinous insider training"
Bloody hell, if I was me I’d want one!
THIS SEASON'S WINES
2013 Athletes Of Wine ‘Viñero’ Cuvée Extra Brut, Macedon Ranges VIC
Finally - after more than 6 years we get to share with you the first sparkling we ever made! After a very dry February in 2013 Matt suggested we pick our Pinot Noir early, find some Chardonnay to go with it and make some fizz. I agreed. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. And now it's ready! It's dry but generous with plenty of ripe citrus and red apple, a slight honeyed note, even a bit of fino sherry-like briny tang and quiet apple blossom.
2016 Circe Pinot Noir Rosé, Mornington Peninsula VIC
One of the standout roses we've tasted over the last 4 or 5 months, an elegant expression of Pinot Noir, medium cherry red in colour with a softness and fleshy texture suitable for drinking on its own or with leftover Christmas ham! Circe is the side project of (ex-Mount Langi Ghiran and now Chandon) gun winemaker Dan Buckle and a chance to make wines from the region he grew up in.
2018 Athletes Of Wine ‘Alto! Alto!!’ Barbera blend, Multi-regional VIC
An intense Piedmontese trio of Barbera (40%), Dolcetto (20%) and Nebbiolo (20%) from the NE of the state, blended with some Macedon Pinot Noir to lighten the mood. The 2018 version of our red blend returns to being genuinely medium bodied with a darker fruit profile, still some carbonic influenced juiciness and a speck of tannin just to straighten it up. We’ll be drinking it with black pudding and cranberry jelly on Christmas day.
